Hello Everyone;
March 2010 is here and for the Month of March we would like to bring everyone’s attention to a very important charity that has personal significance to the staff here at Advance Dental Art. This march, we are supporting the March of Dimes, a charity dedicated to improving the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.
As most of you know, here at Advance Dental Art, we are dedicated to the Oral healthcare of the families here in Orange County. Recent studies have shown direct correlation between Periodontal Disease in pregnant women and the nutritional condition of their newborns.
The study, done by the American Academy of Periodontist states, “A decrease in the average newborns weight and gestational age was observed as the Mother’s level of Periodontal Disease increased. Correlation analysis demonstrated a highly significant clinical relationship between more severe Periodontal Disease and lower birth rate, a highly significant relationship was also clinically demonstrated between increasing periodontal disease severity and decreasing gestational age of the newborn babies. There were significant differences in the weight and gestational age of the newborns of mothers with periodontal Disease. This data suggest that Periodontal Disease in pregnant women is a clinically significant risk factor for preterm deliveries and low birth weight.”
Please help us protect our families with one of the most important tools we have, education! Forward this e-mail to anyone you know that is either pregnant or planning on having a child anytime in the next few years. If you would like to have Dr. Loomis evaluate your Oral health to screen for Periodontal Disease, call today (949)831-4346 for an appointment.
